Common questions
Divorce questions, answered honestly.
Do I need a reason to file for divorce in Michigan?
No. Michigan is a no fault divorce state. The only ground is that the marriage relationship has broken down and there's no reasonable likelihood it can be preserved. Neither spouse has to prove the other did anything wrong.
How long does a Michigan divorce take?
Michigan has statutory waiting periods: at least 60 days from filing without minor children, and generally six months when minor children are involved. Contested cases take longer. How long yours takes mostly depends on how much you and your spouse can agree on. The timeline is mapped out in our divorce guide.
Will divorce drain my savings?
It doesn't have to. Divorce can be a big financial strain, so our goal is to provide expert knowledge at a financially affordable rate, keep the conflict contained, and settle what can be settled. We offer free consultations to walk through your needs, your goals, and your budget.
